III A statement of purpose
To be a political party that
i) enacts the best policy in any situation that requires government action
ii) governs with the highest levels of integrity — recognising the privileged position that political parties occupy in supporting democratic institutions
iii) is the best possible 'alternative government' when not in government
The party's purpose will be achieved by:
Selecting and supporting the best candidates for office
- candidates with a community focus, personal integrity, and the skills, experience, and aptitudes that will allow them to be excellent, engaged representatives for their communities
Listening to those affected by government action (or inaction)
- in order to better understand the issue and options
Using the best understanding to address policy challenges
- the best understanding of evidence, analysis, and practice; while constantly striving to improve, updating understandings when that is required, and being vigilant for when it is required
